Bioinformatics Sales Specialist – Mediterranean Subregion

As Bioinformatics Sales Specialist here at Illumina in the Mediterranean Subregion, you will be part of our dynamic Commercial team, driving the adoption of our cutting-edge informatics solutions across Spain, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia, Croatia, Malta, Cyprus, and Greece. This field-based role blends scientific expertise with customer engagement, supporting both research and clinical customers in optimising their NGS data analysis workflows. You will collaborate closely with account managers, Field Application Scientists, and internal teams to deliver impactful solutions that accelerate discovery and improve outcomes.

Why You
You are passionate about genomics, multiomics, and informatics, and you thrive on helping others succeed. With a strong background in bioinformatics—ideally an MSc or PhD in Genomics, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, or a related field—you bring hands-on experience with NGS data formats (FASTQ, BAM, VCF), variant calling, annotation, and reporting. You understand bioinformatics workflows and tools, and are familiar with cloud infrastructure and data security (e.g., AWS, Azure).
You are fluent in English and either Spanish or Italian—fluency in both is a strong advantage. You’re comfortable engaging with scientific, clinical, and technical audiences, and you bring excellent communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. While prior sales experience isn’t required, you have a commercial mindset and a genuine interest in supporting customer success.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Guide customers in evaluating and implementing Illumina’s informatics platforms
- Support data analysis workflows in both research and clinical settings
- Provide expert guidance on hardware, software, and integration for NGS and array-based applications
- Influence purchasing decisions through scientific insight and stakeholder engagement
- Deliver product demos and pilot analyses to showcase informatics solutions
- Collaborate with Field Application Scientists for seamless pre- and post-sales support
- Develop and deliver seminars and hands-on training on bioinformatics topics
- Coach internal teams and colleagues on workflows and best practices
- Gather and communicate customer feedback to product development and marketing teams
