THE ROLE
You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where chemists, engineers and materials scientists collaborate, each with their expertise, to carry out a scientific activity with a shared research goal.
The Applied Energy Materials and Technologies Research unit is coordinated by Isabella Poli, who has extensive experience in applied energy materials and characterization.
The research focuses on the development of novel materials and technologies for photo-electro-catalytic applications in water treatment and solar fuels generation.
Within the research team, your main responsibilities will be:
- design, synthesis and characterization of new types of (photo)electrocatalysts for the removal of organic compounds in water and solar fuel generation (CO2 reduction and H2 evolution).
- carry out electrochemical measurements and evaluate the results to gain insight into the redox activity and establish structure-performance correlations for catalyst optimization.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- A PhD in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering and similar disciplines
- Documented experience in electrochemical characterization (CV, chronoamperometry, chronopotentiometry, impedance…)
- Documented experience in the synthesis and generic characterization of nanomaterials (SEM, XRD, …)
- Knowledge of gas chromatography analysis
- Strong publication record
- Ability to properly report, organize and publish research data
- Documented experience in coaching junior scientists
- Good command of spoken and written English
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
- Previous experience in synthesis of photo/electro-catalysts
- Good communication skills
- Strong problem-solving attitude
